Family Fun day'25

Family Fun Day at Airbound – Sunday, 31st August

This year’s Family Fun Day was a celebration of laughter, togetherness, and the joy of community. On Sunday, 31st August, we welcomed 54 adults and 73 children to Airbound for two wonderful hours of bouncing, playing, and reconnecting.

From the moment families arrived, the energy was contagious. Children raced towards the giant inflatables, squeals of excitement filling the air as babies, toddlers, and teenagers alike found their place in the fun. Parents stood side by side, watching with smiles, some joining in the bouncing, others chatting and sharing stories while little feet flew past them.

What made the day so special wasn’t just the bouncy castles or the plentiful food (though both were enjoyed in abundance). It was the chance for families to come together in a space where everyone belonged. For families of children with Down syndrome, opportunities like this are more than just a fun outing—they’re a lifeline.

These gatherings remind us that our community is built on shared experiences. They give parents a chance to connect, to laugh together, and to know they are not alone. They give siblings—who so often play an important but quiet role in family life—the chance to feel included, to meet others like them, and to simply enjoy being kids. And they give our children with Down syndrome the opportunity to shine, to join in, and to be celebrated for exactly who they are.

The staff at Airbound played a huge part in making the day so memorable. Their warmth, patience, and genuine enthusiasm brought smiles to every child’s face, and their support ensured that every family could relax and simply enjoy the moment.

By the end of the two hours, cheeks were rosy, legs were tired, and hearts were full. Families left not only with happy memories but with stronger connections to one another and to the wider DSCNE community.

We are also deeply grateful that this day was supported by funding from the National Lottery. Their generosity makes days like this possible, ensuring families have the chance to laugh, play, and grow together.
